Spinning Yarn

We gladly accept yarn commissions and will spin a fiber that you request into yarn or will take fiber you provide and spin it! (Note that we cannot accept uncleaned rabbit fur due to allergies).

Please fill out the Handspun Yarn Commission Application form with a $20 non-refundable application fee to apply.

Pricing Expectations

Though each project is unique and different, here are some basic pricing guidelines (which are approximate and subject to change depending on the specific type of fiber being spun):

  • add $1/oz if you need the fiber scoured/cleaned
  • add $2/oz if you need the fiber processed for spinning (carded/combed/flicked)
  • add $1/oz if you need fibers blended
  • add $2/oz if you need the fibers naturally dyed

IMG_2109Thicker yarns (bulky, chunky), mixed weights, and art yarns:

  • $4/oz if you provide the fiber
  • $6/oz for plant-based fiber
  • $8/oz for animal-based fiber or blends

Thinner, more uniform yarns (sock, fingering, sport, DK, worsted):

  • $15/oz if you provide the fiber and I spin it on a spinning wheel
  • $17/oz for long-staple plant-based fiber (flax, hemp) spun on a wheel
  • $20/oz for animal-based fiber or blends spun on a wheel
  • $30-70/oz for animal-based fiber or blends spun on a spindle
  • $100/oz for cotton spun on a spindle

Make any requests you like, and we will do everything we can to achieve the final product that you need. Expect about 2 weeks processing time for every 4 oz of fiber.

Please fill out the application form with a non-refundable $20 application fee and if providing fiber, mail a sample of the fiber to LoMaNa, PO Box 198452, Nashville, TN 37219. I like to spin a sample of what you want before giving you a more accurate quote and expectation both of price and time.

Deconstructing Yarn

LoMaNa will also consider deconstructing a knitted product, but know that not all products are made the same and some are better suited for deconstruction than others. As such, it will be at the discretion of LoMaNa upon receipt and review of the item whether or not to provide deconstruction services.
